Church Ministries

Charla Blair

Dear Superintendent Allen, Presbytery and District Council:

Thank you for giving me this amazing opportunity to invest into the lives of this generation and the next.  Wow, 2020 has been a year for the record books!

Prayer Ministry:

This year we relaunched our NCN Prayer Ministry  led by Pastors Brian and Cindy Johnson at Bethel Church Grass Valley. What a year to  be surrounding our churches, family, friends, missionaries and our Nation in prayer.

We have been able to hold multiple prayer conference calls in 2020 and are excited to see God continue to move in our NCN churches and pastors.

 NCN Kids Mission Statement:

We are a team of uniquely skilled leaders that exist to see kids ministry within the center if every church. Our kids are needed and the future of the church depends on their growth, empowerment and service as future leaders.

2021 Strategic Goals: Accomplished.

1. Develop community—make new friends.

2. Create awareness—remind the local church of the importance of Kids Ministry.

3. Resource KIDMIN Leaders

Virtual VBS Kids Sports Camp

Participants: 349

With the restrictions of this last year, we weren’t able to meet in person for our summer camps. However, our great NCN Kids Pastors gathered together and made it possible to have a Virtual VBS Sports Camp with their kids. After recording a weeks worth of lessons, Kid Pastors were then instructed to submit their videos. Where our Nut House Media Crew prepared the videos with others and would send it back as a final product. Kids Pastors would schedule zoom meetings with their student to view and talk about the Bible lessons and other fun interact videos.

A special thanks goes out to the Nut House Crew consisting of our NCN Pastors shown left to right: Frank Pereria from New Life Galt, Caleb Sanders from New Life Church Fair Oaks, Sean Marshall from Destiny Rocklin, and Erika Diehl at High Point Assembly Red Bluff.

 Leadership Connections:

A special thanks goes out to Mark Entzminger from the National office for his leadership session specifically for our Kids Pastors and leaders during the shelter in place orders. With encouragement and fun ideas to reach our students with online services to when we are back together again.

Girls Ministries:

In 2020, we had the opportunity to host the National Girls Ministries Leadership Training at Radiant Life Church in Lodi. We were able to honor Odessie Welch with the Jouleen Cotton Award for her years of dedication to the girls in Loyalton, CA. With special guests from Springfield pictured to the right of Lori Warning the National GM Director, NCN GM Director Cindy Sampson, Char Blair and Jen Whalen the National Leadership Development Coordinator.

In May, I had the honor of seeing Makiah Barclay receive the highest honor in Girls Ministries at her Crowning Ceremony. Makiah has taken up the mantle and is teaching the Rainbows class at Loyalton Assembly. Pictured beside L to R: Odessie Welch, Makiah Barclay, Char Blair, Rachel Kent and Carla Barclay

Fall GM Retreat was virtual where the girls were challenged to dive deeper in their relationship with God especially during these times.

Royal Rangers:

In March, we held one of the largest Ranger Derby days in years. With over 100 boys participating in the racing and showmanship from churches all around our district.

May and October brought few camping restrictions. However, our FCF (Frontiersman Camping Fellowship) Trek and Trace were able to meet near Kyburz. These weekend events were filled with sleeping in tepees, throwing tomahawks and axes with over 20 Royal Rangers participating.

Royal Rangers took up their yearly mission of “Toys for the Chief”. This outreach is designed to provide boys and girls with Christmas gifts containing toys, school supplies and hygiene products to several of the Native American Reservations.

Youth Pastors’ Congress:

January’s Congress was a tremendous success. With over 300 youth pastors and their leaders gathered together for leadership training full of transferable principles. We also got the chance to honor some of our Youth Pastors: Dan and Jen Agee at Susanville Assembly, Isaiah and Andrea Sanchez from Real Life Church in Sacramento, Daniel and Haylie Chavez at Cornerstone Church in Antioch and lastly Michael and Supriya Gondi at Bethel Church San Jose.

Thank you Superintendent Bret Allen and Rev. Darin Stroud from the Kansas District for pouring into our NCN Youth Pastors and leaders.

Time with the DYDs

Early in the spring we launched a special time with our Regional DYDs: Jason Smotherman, Pat McConville, Jason Varughese and Ross Morrill. This was a great opportunity to connect, pray and hear how others are staying in contact with their leaders, students, volunteers and maintaining their campus ministry during the unusual 2020 spring season.

Tough Topics

In the midst of our nations civil unrest we decided to talk to our students about these tough topics. Our special guest was Pastor Jonathan Banks from Illinois.

Speed The Light:

We are so proud of our NCN students for stepping up their giving for STL with raising $125,156.40 for missions.

 Boys Ministries:

This year we launched our Boys Ministries under the coordination of Pastor Sean Marshall. What does this ministry look like? Well, we are giving another opportunity to reach boys ages 6 - 12 through curriculum, activities and resources that aren’t found anywhere else.

Thank you Pastor Sean Marshall for your dedication to not only the kids but to the NCN District.

This year we launched Fine Arts Festival Virtually. How? With great guidance from the National office, students were able to record their performances, Youth Pastors then submitted their students videos for evaluation and judging. Special thanks goes to Pastors Caleb Crenshaw, Dave Diggs and Amanda Edwards for making this an event our students were still able to participate in.

Connections:

Real Talk

During the spring and summer of 2020 we introduced a new way for Youth Pastors and leaders to stay connected. Led by Justin Blattel from Refuge Church Manteca, each week he would interview a new youth pastor on Instagram.

Care:

Do to the cancelations and restrictions on events in 2020 we quickly realized the need for our Pastors to support their students on another level. With Anxiety, Depression and Suicide rates at an all time high among teenagers and elementary age students, we sought help from an expert, Family Counselor Marty Couch.  The invitation to this special zoom meeting for our Leaders, Kids and Youth Pastors to help reach their students during the shut down. With simple thing like sending them a text or call, driving by their house, to signs to look out for regarding their mental health. Marty gave some great encouragement to our leaders on making sure that they are also taking care of themselves and their families during these times.

Thank you Marty Couch for giving us these helpful tools.

Youth Summer 2020:

The Answer:

2020’s summer looked different for every one of our NCN Students. For those not able to walk across stage to receive their diplomas and birthdays celebrated with friends driving by honking we decided that even though camp had been canceled we were still going to have a special virtual event for students.

In a time of uncertainty and unrest we gave our student The Answer. This resource gave youth pastors three sermons focused on Fear, Race and Overcoming Discouragement all with the bold truth of JESUS being The Answer for all things.

Future Yth:

With Youth Convention unable to happen in person due to restrictions the NCN Student Ministries Team started working on an alternative solution - FUTURE YTH.

A special thanks to our wonderful speakers Jerad Ellis, Jason Smotherman, Leah Albright-Byrd, Deborah Anderson and Caleb Crenshaw for your encouraging messages for our students and a special thank you to the Great Zambonie for making an appearance.

Thank you to all of the pastors and leaders who have partnered with us to further the Kingdom of God.
